SJI Blue defeats Stallions in
10-Under 3-on-3 finals

Tournament officials supervising the games during the 3-on-3 Basketball Challenge at the West Negros University Gym yesterday admitted some lapses in releasing the result of the 10-Under championship between St. John’s Institute and Stallions.

The officials clarified that young SJI Falcons Aceford Chua, Andre Lechoncito, Steven Pura, and Ernest Hilado won the final game, 8-5, against Stallions’ Jr. Saavedra, Fritz Valencia, Oscar Jacinto, and Alperl Jimenea.

St. John’s Institute Blue team beat the Stallions and won the crown after breaking away from a 2-all deadlock at the start of the game.

Lechoncito led the Baby Falcons with four points, Chua added three, and Pura contributed a point.

Jacinto led the Stallions with three points while Valencia and Saavedra had one point each.

In the 3-on-3 competition, a made basket is scored a point while a three-point shot is scored two points.

Meanwhile, the Stallions quartet got their revenge in the 12-Under category by squeaking past SJI-A, 14-12.

2012 Palarong Pambansa elementary basketball standout Andre Dadivas and Malayas finished with five points apiece for the Stallions backstopped by Genise and Fuentebella with two points each.

With one of its key players, Kis Suarez sidelines due to an injury, SJI was forced to play with three players only in the semifinals and finals.

But even without a substitute in the lineup, SJI managed to take the lead early in the game until they had to play with only two players against three as Emman Go fouled out with four minutes leftin the game.

SJI had a golden opportunity to force a shootout as Anton Albayda, who was attempting a three-point shot was fouled, but he missed his free throws allowing Stallions to escape with the 12-Uder title.

Christian Calinawan led SJI-A with eight points, Albayda finished with three, and Go scored a point.*with a report from Stephen Tan
