Saratan leads boarding rites

Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan recently led the Boarding Ceremony of  the third batch of the  “Kolehiyo sa Baryo” Program  at the Talisay City Public Plaza.

The event was attended by Talisay officials and the West Negros University administration headed by  Dr. Suzette  Agustin, a press release from Talisay City said.

Saratan, city officials and parents pinned shoulder boards on the 76  scholars signifying their readiness to become  seafarers.

“Kolehiyo sa Baryo” is an education flagship program of the  Talisay City government  where poor but deserving youth living in far-flung  barangays are given the opportunity to study Seafaring–Catering/Stewarding Course in partnership with WNU.

Saratan said this program was conceived because of  their determination to give  underprivileged Talisaynons the opportunity to become productive and  break the cycle of poverty and the notion of hopelessness, and they are happy  that  they  are  now seeing the fruits of the program  through  the number of employed scholars.*
