Teachers, gov’t employees
calling for salary increases

About 100 public school teachers and government employees joined the city-wide Fun Run/Fun Walk for salary upgrading of public school teachers and salary increases for other government employees, led by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers and the Bacolod City Public School Teachers Federation Sunday morning, a press release from ACT said.

The Fun Run/Fun Walk started in front of the Bacolod Government Center and ended up in the Bacolod City Public Plaza.

The activity aimed to air out to the Aquino administration the demand of the teachers and government employees for substantial salary increase, it said.

ACT- Region VI president, Bing Dajao, said that despite the recent increase given to the teachers and government employees, their salaries still cannot cope with the unceasing increases in the prices of basic commodities and services, making life even harder.

ACT Teachers Partylist representative, Antonio Tinio filed House Bills 2142 and 3746, “an Act Upgrading the Minimum Salary of Public School Teachers from Salary Grade 11 to 15” and “an Act Providing for a P6,000 increase in the Minimum Pay of Employees and Workers in the Public Sector”, respectively, the press release said.*
