‘BPOs seen to double profits,
direct employment until 2016’

MANILA – The Business Processing Association of the Philippines expects revenues and direct employment by the Business Process Outsourcing industry to double in the next five years.

Based on a study commissioned by BPAP for the IT-BPO Road Map 2011-2016, the BPO industry has the potential to grow from a $11-billion industry in 2011 to a $25-billion industry by 2016, providing well-paying jobs to 1.3 million Filipinos.

But to achieve this target, Hernandez said the industry must address the looming shortfall of hundreds of thousands of people between now and 2016.

Mobile meat stalls
backed for DSB

The Negros First Mobile Meat Shop was launched in Brgy. Poblacion, Don Salvador Benedicto, recently to establish branches in all of the town’s  barangays to sell, buy, distribute, and process meat and meat products.

The Provincial Veterinary Office created the mobile meat shop to strengthen local  quality meat and meat products and to encourage consumers to patronize locally processed goods, Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said yesterday.

Decena said this will minimize the sale  of imported meat and meat products thatdominate the local market in Negros Occidental.

Hydroponics, organic
farming tandem pushed

Hydroponics gardening is viable and can grow organic products even in a limited space in home backyards, John Ramos, manager of Micro Farming Systems, said yesterday.

Ramos, a Bacoleño and an advocate of organic farming, said hydroponic gardening is a soilless agriculture that grows plants using mineral nutrient solutions in water but he modified the technology by adding soil in it.

He said hydroponics normally uses chemical fertilizers that are mixed in water but the soil allows him to use organic fertilizer and make use of the microorganism and the tuna concentrate mixed in the water tank.
