‘Rapist’ fears for life
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE & JUDY F. PARTLOW

The 32-year-old resident of Barangay Bagacay, Dumaguete City, who was accused of raping his 14-year-old niece Sunday, said yesterday that he fears for his life.

The suspect admitted to the DAILY STAR that he raped his niece at his residence while everybody was out celebrating the Feast of St. John the Baptist.

He said he had been drinking coconut wine, locally known as “tuba”, and had smoked a stick of marijuana cigarette and was not in his proper senses when he committed the crime.

He also said that if he is convicted for rape, the victim’s father, who is at the Bilibid prison in Muntinlupa for murder, may avenge his daughter.

Meanwhile, a lending company collector lost P6,300 in cash to two thieves in Barangay Jantianon, Amlan, Negros Oriental, recently.

Elpidio Aquino Panaligan, 22, of Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, who works for Lake City Lending Investors Inc., told the police he was robbed at gunpoint by two men, who fled on a motorcycle.

Policemen are determining if the suspects are the same ones responsible for similar robbery cases in the Sibulan-San Jose-Amlan areas.*JG/JFP
