8:30 p.m. – Boston vs. Bad Boys

Fortuna hopes to extend its winning streak as the squad faces powerhouse Toyota-Bacolod tonight in the 1st PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament played at the West Negros University gym.

Fresh from a 98-94 win over the Bad Boys, a victory tonight against Toyota-Bacolod will strengthen Fortuna’s bid for the crown.

Against the Bad Boys, Fortuna trailed by four points at halftime but bounced back in the third on a 35-18 run to take the lead at the end of the period, 74-61.

The Bad Boys made their own attack in the final period, 31-24, but it was not enough to overturn the match’s outcome as they yielded, 98-94.

Fortuna’s balanced scoring, with four of its players in double figure, carried the squad to victory.

Carlo Chu scored 13 points to led Fortuna as Bonoy Olmedo and Ian Tuerez scored 12 points each, while Ryan Ramos delivered 11 points.

Also contributing big for the squad’s triumph were Noel Peñas with 8, Tee Espejo and Ryan Gamboa with 7 points each, and JR Gapusan and Joefrey Dilag with 6 points apiece.

Meanwhile, Ren-Ren Lacson topscored Bad Boys with 20 points backstopped by Philip Famucol with 14, Ritchie Militante with 13 points, Richard Orbista with 11, Nico Lopingco with 9 points, Alex Fernandez with 7, and Badong Eufre and GP Geroso with 6 points each.

In the other game, Sun Cellular dumped Angels Burger, 99-87.

JR Fernandez scored a sizzling 17 points in the opening quarter to anchor a 36-20 advantage.

In the second period, Angels tried to catch up by outscoring Sun Cellular 17-16, but Sun Cellular kept the lead at the half, 37-52.

Angels continued to make a run in the succeeding quarters but failed to cut down the 16-point lead posted by Sun Cellular in the opening period.

Fernandez led Sun Cellular scorers with 23 points as Sukraj Sekhon hit 20 points, Peewee Demonteverde shot 12, Patric Echarri with 10, Tofel Tan with 7 points and Dave Dokto with 6 points.

Meanwhile, Gab Layasan led Angels with 20 points as Popop Mapile collected 14, Alain Donesa with 13, Balong Santero and Torrecampo with 11 points apiece, Kokoy Nepomuceno with 8 and Jerry Delgado with 6 points.*
