Redistricting not
OK’d yet, Rojas says

Bacolod Councilor Roberto Rojas yesterday said Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile has informed him that the bill apportioning Bacolod into two districts is still in the committee level and has not yet been approved in the Senate.

He called Enrile up Monday to verify a report in a national newspaper that Bacolod City is among the local government units where an additional legislative district has been approved, Rojas said.

The report in the Philippine Star stated that “Enrile has approved the creation of additional legislative districts for Quezon City, Aklan, Bacolod City, North Cotabato and Palawan which will bring the number of congressmen to 290.”

Rojas said Enrile told him that the bill is still with the Committee on Local Governments chaired by Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Enrile also said that only the redistricting of Bacolod has not been approved yet, he said.

During a consultation conducted by the city officials with the barangay and other sectors in 2010, they agreed that Bacolod will be divided into two legislative districts, to be named as Bacolod North and Bacolod South.

The Barangays that will comprise the Bacolod North District are – Brgys. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, Alangilan, Banago, Bata, Estefania, Granada, Mandalagan, Mansilingan, Montevista, Villamonte and Vista Alegre.

The Bacolod South District will include – Brgys. 10,11,12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, Alijis, Cabug, Felisa, Handumanan, Pahanocoy, Punta-taytay, Singcang, Sum-ag, Taculing and Tangub.*CGS
