A collector of the illegal numbers game, “swertres”, was arrested by the police in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, recently.

Romy Salandron, 55, of Sitio Cambunggaw, Poblacion, Sta. Catalina, was nabbed allegedly in the act of collecting bets for “swertres”.

A paper stub with number combinations and P240 in cash were seized from Salandron during his arrest.

Meanwhile, the Siaton police raided the house of a suspected “swertres” coordinator, identified as Cherry Vintula, 36, of Barangay Inalad.

A team, led by town police chief Insp. Cresente Gurrea, and members of the Provincial Public Safety Company, swooped down on Vintula’s residence armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Marie Rose Inocando Paras of the Regional Trial Court Branch 42.

Seized during the raid were 21 tally sheets, a calculator, mobile phones, and bet money of more than P3,000, the police said.

Salandron and Vintula are now detained at the lockup cells of Bayawan and Siaton police stations, and illegal gambling charges are being readied against them.*JFP
