Akasya Grills dumped Ink Cream, 99-87, Tuesday night to bounce back from a heartbreaking 80-82 loss against Boston Finance last week in the ongoing 1st PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament played at the West Negros University gym.

The Grills scored a sizzling 24-12 opening quarter run behind the balanced offense from Edward Castellano who shot seven points, while 6-footer Hanz Schulze scored six points, Janray Pepino added five and Christer Isulat contributed four as Aljin Araneta alongdside Adaratso and Randox Quillope combined for 12 points for Ink Cream.

Playing catch up in the second period, Ink Cream came out strong and outscored Akasya, 27-25 on a huge quarter performance from Panoy Baron who hit nine points while Michael Chan and Teodoro Lara had seven points apiece.

Meanwhile, Akasya’s ace center, 6’7 Mark Kong led his team’s offense with 13 points while teammate JC Sobrevega delivered eight points as Akasya remained ahead, 49-39, at halftime.

Ink Cream sustained the momentum in the third quarter and outscored Akasya anew, 29-22, to slash the lead down to three points at the end of the period, 68-71.

Efren Miravales led Ink Cream’s offense with 10 points as Leandro Francisco and Legaria scored eight points each. On the other hand, Justin Tugado was the lone consistent scorer for Akasya with 11 points as Japhet Cua backed him up with six points.

The final period turned out to be a battle among giants as Akasya’s twin towers, Schulze and Kong, dominated the paint with a combined 15 points, while Sobrevega contributed six points. Raffy Silpao and Lara were the only players who made an impact for Ink Cream in the payoff period.

Kong topscored Akasya with 20 points as Schulze and Sobrevega collected 14 points apiece, Tugado with 11 and Castellano with 10 points.

 Meanwhile, Lara led Ink Cream with 13 points while Chan and Miraveles had 10 points each as Francisco, Baron and Legaria had an identical nine-point contribution.*
