The Russian national who was arrested Saturday at the Bacolod City downtown area for allegedly buying cellular phones with fake credit cards was released on bail yesterday.
Oquil Oquilov, 24, of Moscow City, Russia, was released on orders of Regional Trial Court Judge Edgar Garvilles, Police Station 1 commander Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, said.
Oquilov’s original bail for violating Republic Act 8484 of the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998 was P24,000, however, it was reduced to P20,000, Rosales said.
Oqilov was arrested Saturday following complaint by Lina Aguero of PO’s Markeing Digital Araneta Branch, who claimed that he bought cellular phones from them valued at P29,990 on June 21 using a fake credit card, and wanted to buy another phone on June 23, still with a fake credit card.
Aside from Po’s Marketing, AQ Optical and the PhotoLine at the Shoemart and Robinson’s place malls also identified the Russian as the same person who bought items from them using fake credit cards, the police said.
The Bacolod City Police submitted the pictures of Oquilov to other police units in the Philippines to warn other business establishments against his system, De la Paz said. It is possible that there are other foreigners in Bacolod City and nearby towns and cities with the same act.
The Bacolod police are still looking for Oquilov’s two Filipino companions from Antipolo town in Rizal province, from whom he reportedly got the fake credit cards.*APN
