Ladlad airs alarm over killings
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Negros Occidental yesterday expressed alarm as two more alleged homosexual men were brutally killed in the cities of Escalante and Victorias Sunday and Wednesday last week.

Josep Alba, 20, of Bario Palma in Brgy. 18, Victorias City, was found by a security guard lying on his back with multiple stab wounds near the Victorias Milling Company at about 11 p.m. Sunday.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 3 Joseph Rodrigo showed that Alba was last seen alive while on board a tricycle earlier Sunday.

On Wednesday last week, Genny Boy Maden of Silay City, Negros Occidental, was also stabbed 21 times and his throat was slashed behind the building of the Escalante City Health Office.

Senior Police Officer 1 Angelo Mameros, desk officer on duty, said that they already have suspects behind the killing although they are still working on the motive behind the gruesome crime.

In Bacolod City, five gay killings were reported in less than ten months from last year, police records showed.

Pol Cabalfin, coordinator of Ang Ladlad group, in a press statement sent to the DAILY STAR, said that these recent incidents should be treated seriously and that they are calling the attention of the Negros Occidental Police Office to investigate these cases thoroughly.

Cabalfin said that they urge local government officials to work with the LGBT groups and associations in fighting what he called a “grisly trend of murders of their members”.

Local government units should device a law against discrimination, bullying and homophobia that lead to these hate crimes against the members of the LGBT community, he added.*APN
