Mayor Severo Palanca is opposing the relief of Supt. Alexander Munoz as Victorias City police chief, Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, Negros Occidental police director, said yesterday.
The impending relief of Munoz as Victorias police chief stemmed from allegations that he allegedly released an arrested person placed under his custody.
Guisihan has confirmed that there was an order from Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, Western Visayas regional police director, to relieve Munoz from his position, which was triggered by infractions he allegedly committed.
Munoz, however, denied having committed infractions in the performance of his duty. The arrested 73-year-old suspect was charged in court, and was able to post bail, he said.
He also raised the possibility that somebody may be orchestrating a scenario to remove him as Victorias police chief.
Guisihan, said he will explain to Palanca the reason behind the order of Chief Supt. Querol to relieve Munoz.
Hopefully, there will be an investigation so he can defend himself, Munoz said.
Guisihan also clarified that there is no relief order for Senior Inspector Robert Mansueto as Moises Padilla police chief, and Senior Inspector Allan Reloj as La Castellana police chief, contrary to reports.
Police Inspector Jerry Nacion is temporarily occupying the position as Bago police officer-in-charge, following the relief of Supt. Simeon Gane, who is now taking up a career advancement course, Guisihan added.* GPB
