16-year-old female arrested
for robbery, slay of bizman

A female minor who is wanted for the rob-slay of a Filipino-Chinese businessman in Bacolod City last year, was nabbed at her house in Brgy. Estefania, at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The 16-year-old suspect, whose name was withheld by the DAILY STAR, has been tagged by the police as the third most wanted person in the area of responsibility of Station 4 in Bacolod.

Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania, Station 4 chief, said the minor was nabbed on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Philadelfa Agraviador, who denied her bail.

The minor has been referred to the Social Development Center at the Bacolod City Police Office, Aquitania said, and added that the girl’s companion, whose name was not disclosed, was also apprehended several days ago and referred to the SDC.

Investigation showed that the minor pretended to be a commercial sex worker and that her companion robbed and killed the businessman, who had a stall at the Bacolod City Central Market, at Cuadra Street, last September 28.

Meanwhile, Binalbagan City police chief, Senior Insp. Albert Sy, reported the arrest of Dax Soldevilla, 31, of Brgy. San Pedro, at about 3 p.m. Thursday.

Soldevilla was apprehended on the strength of a warrant for qualified theft issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 57 Judge Danilo Amisola of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, who set his bail at P80,000.*APN

Police Beat Title 2s

The body of an electronic technician was fished out from the shores near the Bacolod City Real Estate Development Corporation port at about 7 a.m. yesterday.

Station 1 commander, Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, identified the fatality as Meynard Maurin Villanueva, 32, of Purok Malipayon in Brgy. 35, Bacolod.

Investigation showed that Villanueva left his house to go fishing at about 10 a.m. Thursday but failed to go home, which prompted his family to look for him.

A fisherman, whose name was not disclosed, saw a body floating in the waters off Bredco port and reported it to the police, Rosales said. It was brought to the St. Peter Memorial Homes in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod, he added.

Rosales said he believes that huge waves destroyed Villanueva’s raft, that caused him to fell into the water and drowned, as there were no visible marks on his body to indicate any foul play for his death.

Villanueva’s body will be autopsied to ascertain the cause of his death.*APN

IN SIPALAY
Army reports
NPA harassment

A week after the death of an Army soldier, suspected New People’s Army rebels indiscriminately fired their guns and harassed an isolated military outpost in Brgy. Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, Thursday night.

No one was hurt in the latest violence perpetrated by the NPA, Lt. Col. Rodrigo Sosmena, 47th Infantry Battalion commander, said.

Sosmena said the rebels, who positioned themselves on a high ground about 300 meters away from the Gatuslao detachment, fired their guns for almost a minute before they withdrew.

He said that he believes the NPA wanted to reiterate its opposition to the presence of soldiers, who are helping the farmers in the area avail of lands.

Sosmena added the Army will not leave the Camindangan community.

Last June 19, PFC John Ilisan, a member of the 47IB Peace and Development Team, was shot dead by suspected NPA assassins in Sitio Cambugi-ot, also in Camindangan.

PDT personnel are being mobilized by the Philippine Army to help local government units identify solutions to the problems of farmers in conflict-affected communities of Negros Occidental.

Col. Oscar Lactao, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said he already alerted PDT members in adjacent areas to possible similar actions of the NPA.

Since August last year, two PDT members of the 47IB have been killed, and two others injured, in NPA assassination activities in the hinterlands of Cauayan and Sipalay City, military records show.

Sosmena said they are preparing the filing of murder charges against Ilisan’s killers.*GPB
