TJ Construction posts 1st win
in PROBAC/LNA7 cagefest

A last minute break for TJ Construction in the fourth quarter allowed the team to prevail over Watchmen Daily Journal, 82-76, in Thursday night’s schedule of the 1st PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament played at the West Negros University gym.

With only a few minutes left in the game, WDJ was on top by two points at 72-70 when a technical foul was called on its bench for unsportsmanlike action. The call gave TJ the opportunity to tie the game at 72-all.

Taking advantage of the situation, TJ scored and grabbed the lead to get away with the victory.

TJ took the lead in the opening quarter with a 27-10 run behind Jeff Zamora’s 10 points backed by Junior Pelingon and Michael Alejandro’s combined 14 points, while Piolo Upuan, Cesar Tan and Pril Cacho pooled their efforts for 10 points.

The second quarter went good for WDJ as they outscored TJ, 19-13, on Jun-Jun Alisbo’s 10 points, including three triples, as they cut the lead to 11 points at the half, 40-29.

TJ remained ahead in the third quarter Justin Baldonado hit eight points for the team’s 20-16 run as Boboy Berueda and Chico Ranier combined for 10 points. Henry Bagay and Taboy Corriente nailed six points each and Adrian Mananquil added five points for WDJ.

Trying to reverse the outcome of the ballgame in the final period, WDJ came out sizzling on a 31-22 rally but the squad yielded to pressure and allowed TJ to post its first win after four outings in the tournament.

Zamora paced TJ with 14 points backstopped by Jojo San Miguel with 11, Pelingon with 10, Baldonado with 9 while Berueda, Yobin Vingco, Mitchel Alejandro and Ruel Morales scored 6 points a piece.

On the other hand, Alisbo topscored WDJ with 17 points as Gacho shot 11, Tan and Bagay with 10 points each, and Donald Quilantang with 8 points.

As of press time, Toyota-Bacolod guns for its fourth win in the tournament against Akasya Grill, while Angels Burger battles TJ Construction in the second game.*
