Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon Jr. led the ceremonial turnover of the Backyard Broiler Project to 12 beneficiaries at the Gawad Kalinga, Sinigayan Village in Sagay City, yesterday.
The beneficiaries were also given equipment like feeders, waterers, sacks, and feeds and chick housing to raise the 45-day broilers.
Some beneficiaries had already received their chicks on Feb.2 and these will be ready for disposal by the second week of March, Anna Leah Silva, project development officer of Technology and Livelihood Development Center, said.
Marañon told the beneficiaries to make good use of the project to make it sustainable so that it will augment their income, a press release sent to the DAILY STAR said.
Sagay City Vice Mayor Kent Javelosa, meanwhile, pledged to hasten the provision of electricity for the 39 families in the village, the press release said.
The project will also be implemented in the towns of Manapla, E.B. Magalona and Pulupandan with a total cost of P1.9 million, Silva said.
For the Sagay beneficiaries, the Huager Multipurpose Cooperative will take charge of the marketing and selling of their produce. It will also handle the purchase of new sets of broiler chicks once they are disposed, she added.
TLDC will also prepare the training for all beneficiaries on good manufacturing and chicken dressing next week to help them in their production services, Silva also said.*LTG
