House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte and four Negros Occidental solons have filed a resolution calling for a special election for the fifth congressional seat of Negros Occidental following the death of Rep. Ignacio Arroyo Jr..

Arroyo’s remains arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport via Dubai on board Emirates Airlines flight EK 334 around 9:45 last night accompanied by his long-time partner Grace Ibuna, her daughter Gabrielle, and his daughter Bianca Arroyo.

Ibuna told reporters at the airport she only wanted a dignified burial for the congressman and to fulfill his last wish to return to Negros Occidental.moremoremore

market rumble

An unsettled conflict between two families led to the stabbing and shooting among their members yesterday at the public market of Silay City, Negros Occidental, leaving two dead and four injured, police report said.

Jimero Dioneo, 50, and his younger brother, Roy, 42, were stabbed dead in the rumble with Leo Abellar Sr. and his son. Leo Jr., who were also wounded, after being shot allegedly by a certain Bobit Dioneo, at about 5 a.m. yesterday, police chief Supt. Rosauro Francisco said.

The Dioneo and Abellar families own meat stalls at the market.moremoremore

Call center agent
goes into hiding

Supt. Julius Ongkiko, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Bacolod City, said the call center agent who illegally recruited 60 persons may also have victims in other provinces.

Ongkiko said that the suspect, whose name is being withheld pending the filing of charges against him, is from Iligan City and had stayed in Davao and Caloocan cities before working in Bacolod.

He added that the suspect resigned from the call center where he was working on February 15 and is now in hiding.moremoremore
