The Department of Social Welfare and Development is now gearing up for the comprehensive assessment evaluation of all earthquake victims in the first district of Negros Oriental.
The DSWD-7 said they are prioritizing Guihulngan City that has the biggest number of affected families and were greatly affected by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake.
They have been holding a coordinating conference with the DSWD from the national office to regional office and the local office to clarify the rules for the assessment evaluation, the results of which will become the basis for the national government in providing assistance to the victims, the DSWD-7 said.
The Local Government Unit has the complete list of affected families but this still needs to be verified and sanitized as some barangay officials are taking advantage of the situation, it said.
During relief distribution, some barangay officials managed to sneak in their names into the lists at least eight times. So it is important to have an evaluation and verification of names that match the master list from the local DSWD.
The DSWD will hire local evaluators to evaluate and validate the earthquake victims in Guihulngan City.
The local government will hire evaluators who will be paid through the P3.3 million check for Cash for Work given by President Benigno Aquino III to Guihulngan City Mayor Ernesto Reyes during his visit.*MA
