PNP visibility up
at Silay market

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

More policeman have been detailed at the public market of Silay City, to prevent an escalation of a conflict between two families, that had left two dead and four injured Wednesday.

Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, yesterday said they are also tapping barangay tanods and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team members to help the local police maintain peace and order at the market.

Guisihan said the conflict between the Dioneo and Abellar families, that had led to a bloody confrontation, was triggered by a lingering feud.

Stabbed dead were brothers Jimero and Roy Dioneo, while those who were injured, were Leo Abellar Sr. and his son, Leo Jr., Ricardo Dioneo and Edgar Flores, who was hit by a stray bullet, police records showed.

Guisihan said he cannot yet act on the request to augment the manpower of the Silay police force, as other city and municipal police stations in Negros Occidental are also undermanned.

He, however, said the Police Regional Office 6 promised to download 50 troopers from the 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office soon.

Meanwhile, Guisihan said Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director of Western Visayas, told him that he will order the temporary deployment of 20 policemen to Negros Occidental.

Guisihan said he is planning to deploy 10 of these to Kabankalan City, that has only 49 policemen, despite of being a large area.* GPB
