Clean-up held at 2 markets

Bacolod City and barangay officials and employees swooped down on the Central and Libertad public markets Saturday during the fourth run of the cleanup drive of the Clean and Green Task Force led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson as honorary chairman and honorary vice chairperson, respectively.

Two leaders of the Task Force, overall chairperson Myrna Servando (of the Lions Club) and Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, one of the three vice chairpersons, said they were glad that particular focus was made on the two primary public markets which many people visit everyday, a press release from City Hall said.

The other vice chairpersons are Councilors Em Ang and Mona Dia Jardin.

Leonardia and Sayson said they are both hopeful that the vendors of Central Market and Libertad will maintain the general cleanliness of their areas to increase the value of the two markets to the buying public, the press release said.

Leonardia said he has observed that the general cleanliness of the areas cleaned by volunteers has been maintained. “I am elated by this development because it means the residents in those areas have decided to regularly clean their areas. This is very significant, because it is really one of the aims of the clean-up drive,” he said.
