Two defective cellular phones and several empty cans that could be used as deadly weapons were recovered by officers of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Region-6 in another greyhound operation at the Bacolod City District Jail male dormitory in Brgy. Taculing Saturday morning.
Jail Warden Chief Insp. Gilbert Peremne said they have implemented strict security measures at the jail so no contrabands like illegal drugs and bladed weapons can enter the area.
Peremne said they added barbed wire around the compound of the jail and fixed the walls after the escape of a notorious robber last year. He conducts a dialog with the leaders of the inmates now and then and has laid down the rules and regulations in the jail with them, he added.
On Friday morning, drugs, bladed weapons and cellular phones, were seized during a greyhound operation conducted by the RBJMP-6 at the Handumanan Jail Annex in Bacolod.
Aside from the drugs and cellular phones, the inspectors also recovered at least P17,000 in cash, Senior Jail Officer 1 Leo Lacerna, one of the inspectors, said.
Premne also told the DAILY STAR that they plan to put up a communication corner at the jail so inmates can contact their relatives abroad or outside Bacolod City.
Through this, Peremne said, the inmates will no longer need to bring in cellular phones to the jail, which is prohibited.*APN back
