BY ADRIAN NEMES III

About P450,000 worth of properties were turned to ashes when fire hit a residential area in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City, Friday night, reports from the City’s Fire Bureau showed.

Chief Insp. Pamela Rojane Candido, city fire marshal, said they received a call from a concerned citizen at about 7:30 p.m. informing them that several houses in Purok Zone 2 were on fire.

Four city fire trucks were dispatched to the area, assisted by the Amity and the Chinese Chamber fire volunteer brigades, Candido said. The fire reached first alarm status and was put out at about 8:27 p.m. with no reported casualties.

Investigation conducted by Senior Fire Officer 2 Harry Fernandez, Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva and Fire Officer 1 Abdul Azis Limpaco showed that the fire originated from the house of Remedios Valentino.

Aside from Valentino’s, the fire also destroyed the houses of Medelino Benaso, Hubert Humea and Teodorico Ceril, and damaged the house of Richel Tolipas, investigation also showed.

Candido said the fire might have been caused by a lighted candle left unattended.*APN
