BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The road accident Friday, involving a double cab pick-up carrying officers and soldiers of the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion, and a cargo truck, in Barangay Mayabon, Zamboanguita in Negros Oriental, has been investigated by the police but Col. Marion Sison, commander of the 79th IB, said the parties had reached an amicable settlement.

An Isuzu Elf cargo truck, driven by Gary Orillana, 23, of Sitio Maladpad, Barangay Bonawon in Siaton, Negros Oriental, and a blue Mitsubishi Strada pick-up truck, driven by Private First Class Rafael Parenas, collided head-on at the national highway in sitio Salngan, Mayabon, resulting in injuries sustained by the drivers and passengers, police reports showed.

The drivers and passengers were brought to the hospital. Both vehicles incurred damages, police reports said.

The passengers were identified as Wilberto Austero, 29, single, and a resident of Maladpad, and the cargo truck helper, while those in the Strada were 1Lts. Erick Calulot and Carmelo Jaluage, 2lt Karen Amodia, Pfc John Alegroso and Cpl Ramon Chua, all assigned to the 79th IB based in Siaton.

The cargo truck’s owner was identified as Lani Agiba, also of Maladpad.*JFP
