Gabriela protest set

A march protest will be hold by Gabriela-Negros Thursday to celebrate the 101st anniversary of International Women’s Day and call for the elimination of the Oil Deregulation Law and the reduction of oil prices.

Rina Amacio, Gabriela-Negros secretary general, said the protest is a nationally coordinated activity, and there members hold its march at 1 p.m. from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon to the Bacolod City public plaza.

The group will also join the rally in Himamaylan City on issues of violence against women while the Talisay Chapter will have a joint activity with its local government Amacio said.

The celebration is supposed to recognize the efforts and contribution of women to the society but the increasing prices of basic and prime commodities have hindered their roles as mothers in providing the needs of their families she said.

She encouraged all mothers to join their nationwide signature campaign calling for the abolition of the expanded value added tax on oil and other petroleum products.

The group will also support the call of the United Negros Drivers Operators Center to repeal the Oil Deregulation Law and will join their protest on March 15, Amacio said. *LTG
