Filing of CoCs set October;
Brgy special polls ordered

BY CARLA GOMEZ

It looks like the unofficial campaign mode for the May 13, 2013 pollswill start in October.

The Commission of Elections has released its calendar of activities for the 2013 automated national and local elections and the filing of certificates of candidacy will be held on October 1 to 5, COMELEC provincial superintendent Jessie Suarez said yesterday.

The period to finalize the list of candidates is from December 2 to 31, but the calendar of activities does not state yet when the official campaign period will start.

Meanwhile the COMELEC en banc has declared a failure of election in Barangay Lipat-on, Calatrava, and voided the proclamation of Ned Damondamon as barangay captain and all the kagawads of the barangay.

It has also ordered the holding of a special election, Suarez said.

The Comelec en banc decision cited a police report that confirmed that Damondamon blocked the passage way going to the barangay polling center on the pretext that it was private property, preventing voters from voting.*CPG
