‘Negros has 1,248
wanted persons’

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

There are 1,248 wanted persons on the loose in Negros Occidental, police records show.

Bacolod City ranked second in Region 6 with 833, while Negros Occidental has 415 as of January this year, records of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management of the Western Visayas police also show.

Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director of Western Visayas, admitted that all police units in Region 6 fell short in their performance in terms of accounting for wanted persons.

Querol, however, said he understand the predicament of the police, especially their lack of personnel and logistics.

That is why we need the cooperation of the public, he added.

RIDM records indicate that 3,643 wanted persons are on the loose in Western Visayas.

Querol ordered the revitalization of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) and the Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) to help monitor the locations of wanted criminals.

"We rely heavily on the information that members of BPATs and BIN could give our police to effect the arrest of wanted persons hiding in their communities," Querol said.

Antique has the most number of wanted persons with 866, followed by Bacolod City with 833, Iloilo - 755, Negros Occ. – 415, Aklan – 286, Capiz – 282, Iloilo City – 127, and Guimaras – 79.

Querol urged everyone to be vigilant especially about the presence of wanted persons in their communities, and to immediately report it to the nearest police station. * GPB
