Peso up vs. US dollar;
But stock rates down

MANILA – The Philippine peso improved against the US dollar yesterday but local stocks were down except for the mining and oil index.

The local unit gained P0.07 against the dollar after it ended the day at P42.87 from the previous day’s P42.94 finish.

Its closing rate is the local currency’s strongest for the day while its opening level of P43.08 is its weakest on yesterday’s trading.

Dutch group underscores
support for TFM

The Interchurch Organization for Development Co-Operation has supported the Task Force Mapalad-Negros for a decade has provided livelihood and capability grants amounting to P28,215,712.104, Kees de Ruiter, ICCO regional manager for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, said Tuesday.

De Ruiter was in Bacolod City for the ICCO’s “Value Chains Development on Fair Economic Development Conversations on Frameworks” with their partners in the Philippines.

He said that TFM-Negros has been one of their important partners since 1994 and is considered the best example of a non-government organization that works in various angles.

3 job fairs scheduled

Three job fairs organized by System Technology Institute-Bacolod, University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, and the Bacolod Public Employment Service Office are slated tomorrow up to next week.

STI placement officer Berlino Trabajar, Jr. said the Enrolment to Employment-System of STI-Bacolod and the Department of Labor and Employment are bringing 20 companies in Bacolod for its National Job Fair Day tomorrow at the Robinsons Place, Fountain Area.
