LTFRB to reveal decision
on fare increase bid today

MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is expected to decide today if it will grant the petition of transport groups for an increase in minimum fare of public utility jeepneys nationwide, a government press release said.

Due to the continuing fuel price hikes, passenger jeepney operators and drivers are asking the government to provisionally increase the current minimum fare rate by P0.50.

During the public hearing on Thursday, the three-man LTFRB deliberated on the transport sector’s prayer for a nationwide P0.50 provisional fare hike for PUJs.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority met yesterday with 32 Community Training and Employment Coordinators of the Local Government Units of Negros Occidental Province at the Masskara Hall, New Government Center, a press release from the Bacolod City government said.

TESDA Neg. Occ. Provincial Director Lorena Yunque discussed with CTECs the guidelines on the slated PANAAD Livelihood Skills Competition scheduled on April 11.

The contest areas are cooking (Negrense Cuisine), tour guiding, table skirting with centerpiece, web page development, haircutting and mechanical CAD which intends to evaluate the contestant’s skills and knowledge in computer aided design, specifically in creating detail and assembly drawings, the press release said.

Peso up on rosy US data

MANILA – Positive jobs data in the United States buoyed both the peso and local stocks yesterday.

The local currency closed P0.30 better to P42.57 against the dollar from the previous day’s P42.87 finish.

Its closing rate Thursday was the peso’s strongest for the day after it dropped to P42.82.

The local currency averaged at P42.68, P0.30 better than Wednesday’s P42.98 average.
