MANILA – Former Philippine Olympic Committee president Cristina M. Ramos Thursday wishes the Philippine Azkals Football Team all the best in their match with North Korea at the AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal despite a recent run-in with them.
“I still wish them all the best in the AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal but disrespect and bad behavior should NEVER be justified no matter what! That is my point in this whole thing,” Ramos said in an email to the Philippines News Agency.
Earlier, Ramos, a former member of the Asian Football CouncilWomen’s Committee, formally filed a complaint after experiencing “crude and totally shameful sexist and demeaning behavior” from Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado just before the friendly match between the Philippines and Malaysia last Feb. 29 in the locker room of the Azkals at the Rizal Memorial Track and Football Stadium in Malate, Manila.
“Are we justifying their acts just because they have a competition and that they are national team members? If we are, I really feel sad for the skewed values some people have,” Ramos said in the email.
The Azkals will launch their AFC Challenge Cup campaign Friday against 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier North Korea, at the Halchowk Stadium in Nepal.*PNA
