Zubiri replaces Pacquiao as
WVRAA main guest

It’s all systems go for the opening of the 2012 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet at the Panaad Park and Stadium on Monday with former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri replacing boxing champion and Sarangani solon Manny Pacquiao as keynote speaker at the opening rites.

Rep. Pacquiao begged off from attending the event as he will have an important meeting with several priests in Manila on Monday, his close friend, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, said yesterday.

The mayor said Pacquiao told him that he already misses Bacolod since it has been a long time since he last visited the place. Pacquiao is an adopted son of Bacolod.

Nena’s Rose II
dumps sister team

Nena’s Rose II Shopping prevailed over sister team Nena’s Rose I, 90-85, to catch the last bus to the quarterfinals in Class B of the 12th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

In the other game, Rapide Auto Experts ended their campaign on a bright note by upsetting Alfie’s Construction in overtime, 92-86.

After the eliminations, Alfie’s Construction and Nena’s Rose had a similar 4-4 win-loss card but Nena’s Rose got the fifth seed after beating Alfie’s early in the tournament.

SJI booters post win
 in NOPSSCEA clash

The newly formed St. John Institute high 10 Under football squad mentored by Peter Talbot post twin victories against University of St. La Salle and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in the NOPSSCEA tournament.

Mentored by Peter Talbot, the young Johnians beat USLS-IS, 2-0, with team captain Paolo Gabriel Go booting in the two winning goals.

Against UNO-R, Michael Jan Baloyo scored three goals, while Go had another two-goal output to register SJI’s back-to-back win in the tournament.
