USLS battles WNU
for NOFA U23 title

Undefeated Ceres-La Salle Football Club and West Negros University Football Club will dispute the 2012 Negros Occidental Football Association Men’s U23 Provincial Championship today, 4 p.m., at the North Football field in Talisay City.

The powerhouse La Sallian team advanced to the final round with an unblemished record after sweeping all their three-game assignment, while the Wesnecans absorbed its only loss in the hands of Ceres-USLS, 2-0, during the March 7 schedule.

Aside from Ceres-USLS and WNU FC, two other squads, the La Carlota City FC and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos joined in the tournament.

Earlier, NOFA slapped the UNO-R team with a one game suspension after they abandoned their match against Ceres-La Salle.

In a statement released to the media, NOFA said the walkout happened after UNO-R coach Carlo Torbela confronted the referee during the match inside the field.

The confrontation was trigged by a collision between UNO-R goalkeeper Jay Ervin Longno and Ceres striker Joshua, that injured the UNO-R keeper.

According to the NOFA statement, coach Torbela asked permission from the official’s table to enter the field but instead of checking on his injured player, he confronted the referee.

NOFA imposed the one game suspension on UNO-R citing the FIFA Disciplinary Code Article 56.*NAB
