The Liberal Party of Siquijor Province is reorganizing after the resignation of its top two officials, former Siquijor Gov. Ben Aquino as LP provincial vice chairman, and provincial party chairman Adam Duhaylungsod in January.
In Duhaylungsod's letter addressed to LP President Mar Roxas, he said he decided to resign as provincial chairman and member of the Liberal Party "to share and devote much time for attention and bonding with my children and to concentrate on my vocation as a practicing lawyer."
Aquino told the DAILY STAR that he and Duhaylungsod actually resigned because of "newcomers” who are dominating local party affairs.
With their resignations, Danny Villa, the provincial party treasurer, has assumed as provincial chairman, Aquino said.
Although the political kingpins of Siquijor, the Fua family, are affiliated with the Lakas CMD party, President Benigno Aquino III won overwhelmingly in
the province in the 2010 elections, beating closest rival Joseph Estrada by more than 5,000 votes. The Lakas CMD candidate, Gilbert Teodoro, came in fourth.
Aquino, the 2010 LP gubernatorial candidate, would not say if he and Duhaylungsod were joining the camp of the Fuas, but said they consider themselves as independents.*AP
