PROSECUTION INSISTS
‘CJ Corona lies’

Chief Justice Renato Corona lied when he claimed that Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno and other Supreme Court personnel were never restrained from testifying in the Senate impeachment court, Rep. Neri Javier Colmenares (Partylist, Bayan Muna) said in press release yesterday.

Corona conveniently forgets that he had the SC issue its February 14 Resolution that not only prohibits Supreme Court Justices and personnel from testifying in the impeachment court, but also threatened them with criminal sanctions, Colmenares added.

The solon said that while the prosecution contends that the testimony of judicial misconduct cannot be deemed privileged or confidential, justices and court personnel cannot avoid being fearful of the threat of possible prosecution.

The press release added that the February 14 resolution is no different from Gloria Arroyo’s EO 464, derailing congressional investigations through the use of confidentiality rules.

Colmenares also aid while Justice Sereno would have met her detractors before the impeachment tribunal, Corona has not shown the same courage by refusing to testify in the impeachment proceedings, and instead resorts to a media blitz, hoping that he will win his acquittal through trial by publicity instead of presenting evidences, the press release added.*
