Top 4 teams eye final seat
in 12th TKP Memorial Cup

Buddy Johann Kendrick Tan beat Alfie’s Construction, 85-73, while Nena’s Rose Shopping dumped RU Shredder, 100-76, to advance to the semifinals in Class B of the 12th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup semifinals at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

JKT will face 888 Chinatown Square in tonight’s knockout match for the finals at 7 p.m., while Nena’s Rose Shopping goes up against top seed Sta. Fe Resort in the second game, the latter having a twice-to-beat advantage.

In taming Alfie’s, Buddy JKT squad relied on Mark Binguan’s sizzling performance as he burned the hoops with 22 points in the opening quarter while teammate Vincent  Javelosa added 10 points for a 32-13 an opening quarter lead.

Alfie’s recovered from its lackadaisical start as Bong Palo hit three treys in the second quarter, while teammates  David Lim and Jeremy Coo combined 13 points to cut the deficit by halftime, 49-45.

JKT Stephen Tan opened the third quarter with back-to-back triples for a 10-point cushion to keep the lead at 67-57 going to the final 12 minutes of the game.

Keeping their composure as Alfie’s tried to wrest the lead, Buddy held on and answered every challenge from the other side, surviving some anxious moments in the late stages of the game when Palo hit eight points to draw Alfie’s closer at 75-71.

A back-to-back triple from Vincent Javelosa doused cold water to the Alfie’s rally as the lead ballooned to double digit for a JKT victory.

Binguan finished with a game-high 27 points, Javelosa added 18, Badong Eufre had 14 points, Glenn Yee with 8,  and Franklyn Madrid made 6 points.

Palo paced Alfie’s with 24 points, Coo scored 10, Lim and Peter Galon hit 8, Christopher Mahinay with 7 points, and Brian Javelosa with 6 points.

In the second game Nena’s Rose Shopping produced a remarkable 39-point output in the second quarter to pull away from a slim 24-22 opening quarter lead to a 63-35 lead at the break.

Ryan Alegario led Nena’s Rose with 22 points, 14 of them in the second quarter, while  Vincent Tan and Kenderson Hao added 15 and 13 points, respectively. Alex Chua contributed 11 points, Matthew Yap and Joseph Tiu had 8 points each, and Victor Go with 6 points.

RU played with only seven players and was led by Paolo Li and Ton Ton Chua with 18 points apiece, backstopped by Toffel Tan with 15 points, Biboy Yap 12, and Ryan Tumbagahan 7 points.*NAB
