The Provincial Farmers Action Council recently elected its new officers who will serve as liaisons of all farmers’ organizations with the National Food Authority, Cynthia Luz Chua, senior grains operations office of NFA, said yesterday.
The new officers are Nicholas Narajor - chairperson, Wedamar Tanaman - vice chairperson, Roly Dolor - secretary, Jun Malo - treasurer, and Heide Pedrosa - auditor.
The members of the Board of Directors are Mario Tapion, Luzida Elbanbuena, Merlita Naban, Marilyn Magbanua, and Andresito Geasin, Chua said.
Chua said the council represents the 14 farmers’ organizations and cooperatives accredited and registered with the NFA.
The FO’s and cooperatives are the Negros Occidental Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Producers Cooperative, CodCod Multipurpose Cooperative-San Carlos, Hinobaan Retailers and Producers Association, San Enrique Multipurpose Cooperative, Gil Montilla Multipurpose Cooperative, Maao Parish Multipurpose Cooperative.
The San Isidro Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries-Multipurpose Cooperative, Inayawan Part Farmers Association, Tuyon Multipurpose Cooperative, DIWAGRIMPCO-Dancalan, Crossing Ibos Farmers Credit Cooperative, BIRD Cooperative, SCFP Agro-Industrial Cooperative Inc., and Bagong Silang Farmers Association, are also registered with the NFA.
Chua said the council aims to coordinate all FOs and cooperatives and provide them will assistance by attending their needs and queries on all programs of NFA.
They will also establish linkages with FOs and other government agencies, private, and non-government organizations that will help farmers in their production, she also said.
Other functions of PFAC include resolving issues concerning its farmer-members, recommending policies which will help improve the plight of their members, and source out funds their special meetings and other activities outside of NFA operations, Chua added. *LTG
