PNP: 1 killed, 2 hurt in
shooting incidents

Police are investigating two shooting incidents, that left one man dead and two others wounded in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, Saturday and Sunday.

Chief Insp. Domeneciano Distrito Jr., Tanjay City police head, identified the fatality as Jose Marie Bengochea, 42, of Barangay San Jose, who was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, from a gunshot wound in his chest.

Police investigations showed at around 10:20 p.m. Saturday, two unknown male suspects on board a motorcycle, opened fire on a brown pick-up truck, and hit Bengochea.

Bengochea’s companion, Billy Joel Aquilar, 21, sustained a gunshot wound in his right thigh, the police said.

Police recovered spent shells of caliber 9-millimeter at the crime scene. Motive for the shooting is being investigated, Distrito said.

At about 1 a.m., Sunday, a gardener of former Tanjay City Vice Mayor Nilo Tam was shot by an unidentified gunman, while urinating near the gate of his employer’s house at Isagani Street in Barangay 3, Tanjay City.

Police said Quinciano Alcazar, 44, married, of Barangay Balugo, Valencia in Negros Oriental, sustained a gunshot wound in the neck with the bullet exiting through his mouth.

Distrito said Alcazar was rushed to thhospital where he is still being treated. Police recovered pty shells of .45 caliber at the crime scene.*JFP
