Rotary Club Marapara holds
medical mission in Bacolod

The Rotary Club of Bacolod Marapara held a medical mission for residents at the Antonio Chan Memorial Technical Center of Brgy. Bata in Bacolod City Sunday, a press release from the club said.

A team of 30 volunteer doctors and nurses from Riverside and Doctors' Hospitals, two dentists from the Philippine Dental Association and four dental technicians, provided medical care for some of the poorest residents during the mission.

About 350 barangay members and their children availed of medical checks and dental work in the mission held primarily for the benefit of the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club caddies and their families, and other residents of the barangay, the press release said.

Club president Rico Cajili said that an important part of their community programs is to provide basic medical and dental assistance to the less fortunate in society.

Adding support were 5th District Provincial Board Member, Melvin Ibañez, who provided ECG-EKG services, the Sugar Tee Foundation, which provided medicines and the Rotaract Club of Bacolod Marapara that provided 13 volunteer nursing students, the press release said.

The club also undertakes other community activities each year and it's main fund-raising event is the annual “Rotary-Golf for a Cause” tournament held at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Bata, Bacolod. This year's event will be staged March 31 and April 1, the press release added.*

‘Pureza’ showing in Silay

The Silay City government will sponsor the showing of “Pureza”, the story of Negros sugar, by J. Abello at the Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center 6:30 p.m. Thursday, a press release from the City said.

Mayor Jose Montelibano said the show is for sugarcane workers, planters, educators, civic clubs, government employees, barangay officials, and students, to make them aware of the reality of the sugar industry of Negros.

He added that the film is both informative and educational because it features the history of the sugar industry, the different stages that took place in the economic growth of Negros and the different roles played by the workers, planters, millers, traders and consumers.

Silay tourism officer Ver Pacete, said staff members of Negros Pureza Foundation will be answer questions after the presentation.

The show is free but tickets will be distributed to those interested because the center can only accommodate a limited number of viewers.

Interested parties can get in touch with the Tourism-Cultural-Community Affairs Office at the Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center, the press released added.*

Exhibit on women at Museum

Bacolod-based artist Roger Salvarita is holding a solo exhibit at the Negros Museum in Bacolod City, this month, a press release from the museum said.

Titled “Woman in Women”, the exhibit features paintings of women in diverse roles of society, iconic beauties and personalities.

Salvarita, one of the 80s cinema painters, worked on many paintings in Bacolod that engraved his skills in cinema style painting, the press release added.*
