Zubiri bares senate
line up of Binay team

Juan Miguel Zubiri yesterday said he will run for senator in 2013 under the United Alliance headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay that has, so far, 10 Senate candidates on its line-up and is expecting two more.

Zubiri, who was in Bacolod City yesterday as keynote speaker at the opening of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium, said his Bukidnon Paglaum Party will align with Binay’s United Alliance, composed of members of parties and independents not aligned with the Liberal Party.

He said among the candidates on their senatorial line up aside from himself are senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Loren Legarda, Gregorio Honasan and Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel, former senators Richard Gordon and Ernesto Maceda, and representatives JV Ejercito, Jack Enrile and Mitos Magsaysay.

He said they are leaving three slots open for the Nacionalista Party, as Allan Peter Cayetano and Cynthia Villar may also join the United Alliance.

There may be 13 instead of 12 Senate seats open in the May polls next year, with Senator Miriam Santiago taking on a job as judge in the International Criminal Court, he said.

However, the winner of the 13th slot will sit for only three years, or the remainder of Santiago’s term, he added.
