P4.2M housing units
for flood victims

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The construction of 60 housing units worth P4.2 million, for floods victims in Dumaguete is in full swing near the Habitat 4 housing project in Barangay Bajumpandan.

The Dumaguete City Social Welfare Office, however, clarified that these units are intended for victims of floods in 2009.

Tinang Jubela of the DSWD said the fund come from the agency’s national office. The houses designed by DSWD are for small families with one bedroom, a sala and a kitchen, all in a 60-square meter lot with a floor area of 25 square meters.

Other features are the sharing of one septic tank for two units, roofing made of nipa, and putting up of a multipurpose area.

The homeowners are paid for their equity of 30 days at P200 per day, and amortization is P200 a month, representing payment for the lot, and will be used to purchase another area for housing, Jubela said.

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria also announced an appropriation of P400,000 to continue the pavement of the road going to the housing site.*JG
