4 more killed in stabbing,
shooting incidents: police

Four more Negrenses died in stabbing and shooting incidents in EB Magalona and Talisay City, bringing to seven the number of fatalities within six days or since March 6, in Negros Occidental, police records show.

Police said stabbing suspect Johnny Cortiz, 20, is nowhere to be found now, after he allegedly stabbed to death Efren Aracha Clarito, 24, and Renante Alampayan Redolla,19, during a benefit dance Sunday in Brgy. Consing, EB Magalona.

Police investigations showed that Clarito and Redolla, both residents of Hacienda Binalangaw, Brgy. Consing, figured in a commotion and in the mauling of a certain Elmer, outside the benefit dance hall, and were stabbed later allegedly by Cortez, of Hacienda Maria Jose, Brgy. San Isidro, all in EB Magalona.

Senior Inspector Arnold Mesias, EB Magalona police chief, said Clarito and Redolla were both declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Silay City.

Two counts of murder are being prepared for filing by the EB Magalona Police Station, against Cortiz.

Land conflict, meanwhile, triggered the shooting to death of Restituto Venancio, and the wounding of his brother, Paterno, March 10 in Brgy. Dos Hermanas, Talisay City, the police said.

Supt. Thomas Joseph Martir, Talisay police chief, yesterday identified the suspect as Allan Javellana, who fled after the incident.

Martir said the Paternos also sustained hack wounds, allegedly inflicted by the companions of Javellana.

A suspect in the stabbing of two barangay tanods in Brgy. Camandag, La Castellana, was arrested by the police in a pursuit operation in Moises Padilla, Sunday.

Senior Inspector Allan Reloj, La Castellana police chief, yesterday identified the suspect as Vicente Legaspi, alias Tolendoy, 19. He is detained at the La Castellana Police Station jail, pending the filing of homicide and frustrated homicide charges against him in court.

Reloj said Legaspi stabbed barangay tanods Jupiter Tagnia and Roberto Gonzales, who tried to subdue him Saturday for carrying a deadly weapon at a benefit dance hall in Camandag. Before the stabbing incident, he was also disarmed of a bladed weapon by the tanods.

Tagnia, 42, succumbed to a stab wound in the chest, while Gonzales, 37, is now in a stable condition.

Pursuit operations by the La Castellana police led to the arrest of Legaspi in Sitio Barracks, Brgy. Magallon Cadre, Moises Padilla, the police said.

Three other victims of shooting and stabbing incidents also died from March 6 to 8 in Cauayan, and in the cities of San Carlos and Sipalay, police records showed. * GPB

IN DEATH OF PASTOR
Homicide raps to be filed
versus former militiaman

The police will file homicide charges this week against a former member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit, who allegedly mauled a Baptist pastor on Feb. 28, in Brgy. Cabacungan, La Castellana.

Senior Inspector Allan Reloj, La Castellana police chief, said they have gathered the affidavit of the complainant, in preparation for the filing of charges.

Police said Pastor Andrew Mariano, who was on board a motorcycle, figured in an accident involving former CAFGU member Gerry Belotendos, who was also driving a motorcycle.

Mariano was beaten up, allegedly by Belotendos, who is the son of a barangay captain, after the accident. He died on March 1 while being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.* GPB
