The Intercessors for the Philippines will hold a prayer and fasting service, starting 3 a.m. today, at the Provincial Capitol grounds in Dumaguete City, to pray for the lives lost and the families affected by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit the province last month.
Pastor Donald Tabile, coordinator of the Intercessors for the Philippines- Negros Oriental, said the service is a solemn gathering that marks March 17 as the 40th day of the temblor.
The service was intentionally scheduled at 3 a.m. because it is described as the most solemn time for prayer, he added.
It will start with the blowing of the “shofar”, a Hebrew word for a horn traditionally that of a ram that is used for Jewish religious purposes.
Tabile said the service is open to all religious denominations because it is a call for a unified prayer intention to God.
Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo has signed a resolution, authored by Board Member Jessica Villanueva-Koppin, declaring March 17 as a “Day of Prayer” for earthquake victims province-wide.
The resolution asks the public to pause and offer a prayer at exactly 11:49 a.m. today.*
