FOR WONDER CITIES SLOT
Help Bacolod campaign, mayor urges
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said he is very grateful that Bacolod City is again in the world map with its inclusion among the contenders for 7 Wonder Cities of the World.

Bacolod City is now one of the aspirants in the New Seven Wonder Cities of the world after it got one of the seven slots for Philippine urban cities grouped with Southeast Asia and Oceania as of March 12, 2012.

Leonardia enjoined everyone to be proud and help in the campaign to promote Bacolod so it will be included among the top cities of the world.

“Let the world be aware of us, be proud that Bacolod is one great city in the world that is worthy to visit and stay in,” he said.

The search of the wonder cities is understaken by the 7 Wonders organization which also organized the project where Puerto Princesa landed among the 7 Wonders of Nature.

There were 303 cities coming from the seven or eight regions of the world chosen on March 12, 2012 and the selection group included Bacolod City in the list under Southeast Asia.

Selection will be done by voting through the internet. Those who vote have to log on to the www.new7wondercities.com and choose Bacolod and six other cities in the world.

Bacolod is believed to have a good chance to be included because of its numerous awards and recognitions. It has ranked as No. 2 in the growth cities category, No. 3 in the Next Wave Cities, among the 100 cities enlisted for Call Center operations, and the most business-friendly in the Philippines, and many others.

Leonardia, meanwhile, said he is urging Bacoleños, both in the Philippines and abroad to help their city attain this honor by casting their votes as suggested.*CGS
