AMONG NEXT WAVE CITIES
Bacolod ranked No. 3

Bacolod is third in rank in the annual report on the Top 10 Next Wave Cities as shown in The Philippines’ Best IT-BPO Locations for 2010-2011 publicly released by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines and Information and Communications Technology Office under the Department of Science and Technology Thursday.

The Next Wave Cities 2010-2011 cited Bacolod City as among the IT-BPO pioneers in the Western Visayas region, the country’s third fastest growing economy and that together with industry stakeholders, local leaders have expressed their commitment to improving infrastructure, developing talent and ensuring a successful business environment, a press release said.

The NWC report, which was received by the former chair of the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, showed that an estimated 105 million a month or close to P1.3 billion annually is being poured into the local economy.

The report shows that from 2,154 IT-BPO jobs in 2007, an increase of 67.17 percent or a total of 12,167 jobs was achieved by 2010. It also highlighted the 15 parks and buildings accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority which accounts for the availability of IT-BPO spaces in the city, the release said.

Batapa-Sigue said the annual report concluded that such stakeholder partnerships will help ensure a sustainable talent supply, which is crucial to the progress of the IT-BPO industry, the press release said.*
