6 Negrense cops
to get awards

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Six policemen will be honored and awarded with the Medalya ng Kasanayan at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City today.

The six had participated in the simultaneous arrest of a suspect in the P2-million armed robbery and murder cases, and a former Army soldier allegedly linked to the peddling of prohibited drugs in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, The medal recipients are Supt. Leonardo Angcon, newly-installed chief of the Intelligence Branch of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and his two other personnel, Senior Police Officers 1 Junji Liba and Cyrill Bonilla, Senior Inspector Anthony Grande and two other members of the Kabankalan City Police Station identified as PO3 Rafael Santa Ana and PO1 Antonio.

The arrest of Bonifacio Galagate Jr., one of the suspects in the P2 million robbery, and the killing of Celso Cari-an, and the filing of charges for robbery with homicide, illegal possession of firearms and drugs against him, led the police to declare the twin incidents as “solved”.

Police records show that former Army sergeant Violante Fernandez was also apprehended for violation of RA 9165, and illegal possession of ammunition, in the same house where Galagate was hiding from the police in Kabankalan City.

Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director of Western Visayas, is expected to confer the medals in the six outstanding Negrense policemen during the traditional flag-raising ceremony today at the Police Regional Office 6 headquarters in Iloilo City. * GPB
