Agriculturists to help ‘students’ in
‘Eskwelahan sa Kahanginan’

Twenty agriculturists have been  assigned as field coordinators for the Eskwelahan sa Kahanginan on Organic Agriculture who will monitor and take charge of the student-listeners in Negros Occidental, Edna Garde, manager of the Farmers’ Information and Technology Services Center, who is hosting the radio program, said.

The field coordinators will conduct the information campaign on ESK on Organic Agriculture, maintain their directories on their list of enrollees, and collect, check, and record module tests of the student-listeners, she said.

They will come from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, the academe, and from  non-government organizations, she also said.

The field coordinators are Samson Garzon, Jr.-Victorias City, Alejandro Malijoc-Manapla, Yolanda Bimbao-La Castellana, Lani Yanong-Sipalay City, Jullie Rivera-Valladolid, Elizabeth Lasafin-Himamaylan, Melba Bañares-Kabankalan City, Gene Enarle-Silay City;

 Mary Ann Ordinario-Cauayan, Jethro Dadugam-Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Leo del Rosario-La Carlota City, Gavina Dejillo-Candoni, Wennie Sycayco-Bago City, Ramonita Ronquillo-Moises Padilla, Lauro Pacigado-Hinigaran, and Allan Euag-Quidan Kaisahan are also listed as coordinators.

The radio program was launched in three radio stations in Negros Occidental, Garde said. It is aired in DYVS at 4:30a.m.-5:30a.m. Mondays to Fridays, DYRL at 4:30a.m.-5:30a.m. and 6p.m.-7p.m. on Sundays, and Radyo Natin in Sipalay City at 11a.m. every Monday, Garde said.

The program will help educate farmers about new developments and technologies on organic farming and more information about the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010, she added.

She said the student-listeners will be provided with materials and handouts to  be used during on-air lectures after the four-month program the OPA will award top students with exemplary performance, Garde added.

The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center VI funds the program while the province and the OPA provided educational materials for the farmers, she said.

Garde  said she is  encouraging all farmers, entrepreneurs, and students to log on to www.e-extension.gov.ph/elearning for free online courses in crops, livestock, marine and fisheries, and social technology.*LTG
