A man, who police believe is behind a series of robbery-theft incidents in Dumaguete City, and nearby areas in Negros Oriental, was arrested by civilians, Sunday, after a pickpocketing incident.

Police investigation showed that Dionisio Noveliro Sancon, 41, a resident of Canday-ong in barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City, picked the handbag of a co-passenger while inside a multi-cab, at Hibbard Avenue.

Marivic Blanco, of Guihulngan City, almost lost P10,000 in cash to the suspect. As Sancon was alighting from the vehicle, passersby were alerted when someone in the multi-cab called for assistance, prompting them to chase and corner the suspect, the police said.

Residents ask city to
solve flooding
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Residents of puroks Bayanihan and Balaha-an in Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete, are appealing to the city government to help them solve the severe flooding problem in their area, especially during heavy rains.

This was after a recent forum on the matter held by the barangay council, led by chairman Jose Pino, and attended by affected residents and Nida Caro and Willie Oira of the City Engineers Office.

The residents complained that when tropical storm “Sendong” hit the barangay, the Banilad-Bajumpandan loop road was covered with floodwater, and this destroyed properties and put lives at risk.
