One killed, 30 injured in
bus, jeep collision

One of the passengers injured in the bus-jeepney collision in Valladolid town, Negros Occidental, Sunday, died in a hospital in Bacolod City, several hours after the accident.

Police Officer 2 Norbert Panogalinga, traffic investigator, identified the fatality as Sherly Solidario, 69, of Brgy. Zone 6 in Pulupandan town.

Solidario was a passenger in the jeepney, driven by Rolando Malinao, of Brgy. Patik in Pulupandan, Negros Occidental, that was hit by a Ceres bus, owned by the Vallacar Transit, at about 10 a.m. Sunday.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 3 Julieto Obandos showed that the jeepney had suddenly stopped to pick up a passenger in Brgy. Mabini, Valladolid.

It added that bus driver Arnel Canjasan, of Brgy. Cabacungan, La Castellana, lost control of the vehicle, and it hit the left rear portion of the jeep, which flipped on its side and fell into a roadside canal.

Panogalinga said the number of the injured rose to 30 from 26, but most of the passengers have been released from the hospital since they sustained only minor injuries.*APN

Motive for slay of Cebu-based
truck driver still being probed

Station 2 policemen are facing a blank wall on the killing of a truck driver, identified as Sotero Rosario, 41, who was found with six stab wounds, at the Bacolod City Real Estate Development Corporation port, Sunday.

Police Officer 1 Leomel Guinanao, case investigator, said they are still trying to establish why the suspect, a certain “Raymond Romo”, of Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental, killed Rosario, a resident of Sancianco Street in Cebu City.

Romo evaded arrest but his cousin, Josie Arpon, 28, of Manapla town, Negros Occidental, was taken into police custody yesterday after he gave contradicting statements to the investigators, Guinanao told the DAILY STAR.

He added that Arpon is considered one of the suspects in the killing of Rosario, who was found, lying on his back, bathed in his blood, on top of a wooden bed, by residents who were fetching water from a nearby tank at about 6 a.m. Sunday.*APN
