Tribute to a teacher

Huling Tertulia, a memorial tribute for Luisa Medel Howard, was rendered by the La Consolacion College Alumni Association, in cooperation with the Circulo de Bacolod, Sunday, at the L.C.C. Little Theatre.

Bacolod Mayor Bing Leonardia, Sr. Myrna S.T. Concepcion, and Ricci Reyes Adan, cut the ceremonial ribbon and unveiled the dedication plaque, of what is now the Luisa Medel Little Theatre.

Sr. Concepcion, president of LCC, welcomed the members of the Medel family, the alumni and visitors. Mayor Bing delivered meaningful talk about happy memories of his student days at LCC. He recalled that he was cast in the staging of Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere,” by the late Luisa Medel Reyes Howard, where his spoken part was only three lines, but these three lines prompted him to enter public service.

Johanna Bayoneta and Alfie Gonzales, presented a video tribute on the works of “Ms. Medel,” and her students remembered her favorite line: “All of us have hidden talents that we must develop.”

Excerpts from classical literary pieces were presented by former students Benilda Tejada, Edwina Fuentes Javier, Gloria Angeles Melocoton, and Anggie Paguia; A short Ilonggo play titled “Ang Gugma ni Virgel kay Cely”, directed by Marili Tacardon, was also presented  and kept the audience laughing.

Highlight of the program were the two dance performances by Ricci Reyes Adan that mesmerized all of us. It was a very memorable afternoon. Greer Medel and cousin Chuck Medel, thanked all who attended the program emceed by Josephine Castillo.
