Vice mayor of
Escalante passes away

Escalante City Vice Mayor Ester Maravilla Ampil died at 12:30 a.m. yesterday of cardiac pulmonary arrest at her residence in Escalante, Negros Occidental.

Ampil, 69, served as councilor of Escalante for nine years and had been vice mayor for more than a year. At the time of her death, she was the acting mayor of the city.

She is survived by her husband, George Ampil, her children Stephen “Choy”, Geomar, Gerard, Maricon Viñalon and Joseph Maravilla, and their spouses, and children, and also her sisters and brothers Marit, Connie Gamboa, Celia Vega, Sr. Naty, SSJ, Luis, Sr. Mila, SSJ, Josie Tad-y and their spouses and families. Another brother, Jose Jr. is now deceased.

Her granddaughter, Stephanie Ampil, describes her grandmother as a very caring and loving lola, who was loved by her townmates for being “pro-masa”.

Her remains now lie in state at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Chapel of the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels. Interment will be on March 23 at the Bacolod Memorial Park after the 2:30 p.m. mass at the BMP Chapel.*GPB
