The task force created to inspect the accuracy of the calibration of pumping machines of gasoline stations in Bacolod City will start its random inspection Friday, Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said yesterday.
Sayson had been tasked by Mayor Evelio Leonardia to head the task force that will include representatives of national agencies concerned with consumer welfare, especially the Department of Trade and Industry.
The task force aims to determine the accuracy of the pumping machines of gasoline stations.
Sayson said the inspection was delayed since most of the members of the task force are involved in the One-Stop-Shop for business permit application and renewal that has been extended until March 31.
Sayson said they will use a graduated cylinder to determine the actual volume of gasoline pumped by the pumping machines.
If it is within the variation allowed by law, the owner of the gasoline station will only be asked to adjust or calibrate their pumps, he said.
“But if the variation is so big, that is the time when we will close their gasoline station, or file charges against them. We hope we do not catch anyone,” he added.
Sayson had earlier appealed to the owners of gasoline stations to start calibrating their pumps to avoid embarrassment.
Gasoline stations caught shortchanging the public will be subjected to legal action and also to closure, he said.*CGS
