Focal persons trained

Forty-three focal persons in Negros Occidental recently had a four-day provincial training of trainers on organic agriculture in Bacolod City on the legal basis and implementing rules and regulations of the Organic Agriculture Act of 2012.

Dina Genzola, senior agriculturist of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, said the training focused on the strategies in the promotion and marketing of organic products, certification standards, various organic practices, and the application of appropriate production technology for specific farm activities and management.

Genzola said they expect the trainers and focal persons to relay and re-echo the concerns, programs, and projects in organic agriculture so that they will be able to fully implement the law.

The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center VI sponsored the training and is the technical agency for extension programs that leads in the implementation of the organic agriculture extension, information, training, and educational activities, she added.

Theresa Aurora Cosico, national focal person on organic agriculture of the ATI-Manila attended the training.*LTG
